Down With an Abscess

That's what the very tanned backpacker said to her friend as I passed by. I assume she meant a fellow traveller, laid low from incessant walking and sporadic bathing. I was only feet away, when she followed up with "that looks like Denis Leary!"

It's not the first time I've heard that. And no - I don't mean the abscess bit. Yes, I bear a resemblance to actor Denis Leary. That's the one I get more often than not. Once in a while I get a "Willem Dafoe" and so, it would appear, does Denis Leary. I recently caught an episode of Rescue Me, in which Denis' character is offended to be told he looks like Willem Dafoe. Hahaha.

Maybe there's a project for all 3 of us. Where we're long lost siblings or different versions of the same man in different dimensions. Or genetically engineered clones. Or maybe not.

When I first arrived in LA, I ordered a coffee. Here follows the exchange:

Barista Guy (after a long beat): Are you him?

Gideon (after an equally long beat): I'm sorry. What?

Barista Guy: Are you HIM?

(Gideon smiles and shakes his head, getting uncomfortable)

Barista Guy: Are you.... Brian Adams?

Yup, that's what he said. I was a little taken aback. Don't get me wrong, Bryan's a talented guy. But he's pushing fifty. I'm not. Just yet. Lemme enjoy my thirties a little bit! It's as bad as my half brother, Matthew, who wished me a happy 46th birthday this year. And he wasn't kidding. Geez! Thanks for stealing a decade, pal. And that's family!

But if anyone knows Denis or Willem, feel free to tell them their doppelganger's waiting in the wings.

  1. (I swear I'm not just sucking up.) You're better looking than Denis Leary and Willem Dafoe, combined.

I'm not sure I see the resemblance, but I have a friend who thinks you look like Brian Adams too, but better looking. (And that was from a straight guy friend too. I'd post the exact conversation, but I'm afraid I'd embarrass myself.)

  2. LMAO - your blogs crack me up!

You are definitely better looking than Mr. Leary and Mr. Dafoe. Though you could definitely play their brother!
I'm not seeing the Brian Adams resemblance.

BTW - I just turned 36 this week myself, and my stepson puts me in the same age bracket as Susan Sarandon. Basically, anyone over 25=old. I'm thinking your barista was of the same mindset.
Sigh - gotta love the 30's.

  3. (I have had practically all my friends say you look like one of those two in the past few days. >.< Strange timing for this post. haha! I think of something that has some connection with you and you post something similar... o.0 I find it an odd coincidence.)

I agree with mzharts (I'm have not been trying to suck up either by the way. Just voicing or rather typing my thoughts), you look better than Denis and Willem. (I don't see the resemblance to Bryan Adams though) I see where all my friends get the resemblance from but, if you just took a moment and looked at the faces you can really tell who is who. You actually have the most defined features Gid. ;) If you ever did play their brother I would be the one with a large crowd over me, asking who is who. "Gid, Willem, Denis. Come one guys! I have been doing this for 30 minutes!"

*Laughs* Your half-brother really forgot!? haha! How sad! Everyone I meet seems to think I'm about 25 when in fact I am 17, so I know how that feels dispite how young I am. My uncle even though I was about 21 last weekend. XD
You really don't look old Gid, to be perfectly honest. The first time I ever actually saw you was in Primeval and I thought you were about 27! Honest to God I did! Needless to say I was surprised to learn that you were 35. XP You take good care of yourself, lol.

  4. Hi Gideon :)

I've just watched the 1st series of "Moonlight" on T.V. Choice (great series!), and on reaching the 8th episode, was (pleasantly) surprised to see your face on my screen!

Great performance!! (of course! - not a surprise!)

Wanted to say well done, and check on how you're doing :)

So... well done. And I see you're doing particularly well :)

    Great blog posts.

    Take care. x

  5. Finally! I fixed my computer a few days ago, and I went through frame by frame and got those shots of the other look-a-likes. o.0 (Talk about time consuming. -_-) How I came across these people I have no idea but I did.

I have tried to put links to the pictures on this reply, but I can't seem to make it work. :(
I put both comparison shots on my latest blog entry though, if you want to take a peek for yourself. I still don't know why I was so compelled to get those shots again though... Just felt like something I had to do I suppose.
